Brooklyn Park police spent several hours Thursday looking for the parents of a 3-year-old child who was found wandering along a busy street near North Hennepin Community College. Police eventually got a phone call from the boy's mother about five hours after the search to find her started.
A passerby initially spotted the boy at about 7:40 a.m. in the area of 84th and West Broadway. The child was wearing only a diaper.
Jill Love, who lives in the neighborhood, also saw the boy. She says the boy went by the name Mikey. Love says she gave the boy a blanket because he was shivering. Police determined the boy lived at a house in the middle of Love's block.
"There are several adults in the house and there was some kind of miscommunication between the adults," said Brooklyn Park Police Lt. Eric Nelson. "It's a good ending, and we hope to reunite the parents and the child shortly."
The boy is doing well, but was taken to St. Joseph's Home for Children in Minneapolis, where he'll remain with child protection services until police sort the matter out.
